Renormalization group flows and continual Lie algebras

چکیده

We study the renormalization group flows of two-dimensional metrics in sigma models using the one-loop beta functions, and demonstrate that they provide a continual analogue of the Toda field equations in conformally flat coordinates. In this algebraic setting, the logarithm of the world-sheet length scale, t, is interpreted as Dynkin parameter on the root system of a novel continual Lie algebra, denoted by G(d/dt; 1), with anti-symmetric Cartan kernel K(t, t′) = δ′(t − t′); as such, it coincides with the Cartan matrix of the superalgebra sl(N |N + 1) in the large N limit. The resulting Toda field equation is a non-linear generalization of the heat equation, which is integrable in target space and shares the same dissipative properties in time, t. We provide the general solution of the renormalization group flows in terms of free fields, via Bäcklund transformations, and present some simple examples that illustrate the validity of their formal power series expansion in terms of algebraic data. We study in detail the sausage model that arises as geometric deformation of the O(3) sigma model, and give a new interpretation to its ultra-violet limit by gluing together two copies of Witten’s two-dimensional black hole in the asymptotic region. We also provide some new solutions that describe the renormalization group flow of negatively curved spaces in different patches, which look like a cane in the infra-red region. Finally, we revisit the transition of a flat cone C/Zn to the plane, as another special solution, and note that tachyon condensation in closed string theory exhibits a hidden relation to the infinite dimensional algebra G(d/dt; 1) in the regime of gravity. Its exponential growth holds the key for the construction of conserved currents and their systematic interpretation in string theory, but they still remain unknown.

On Post-Lie Algebras, Lie-Butcher Series and Moving Frames

Pre-Lie (or Vinberg) algebras arise from flat and torsion-free connections on differential manifolds. These algebras have been extensively studied in recent years, both from algebraic operadic points of view and through numerous applications in numerical analysis, control theory, stochastic differential equations and renormalization. Butcher series are formal power series founded on pre-Lie alg...

Renormalization-group trajectories from resonance factorized S matrices.

We propose and investigate a large class of models possessing resonance factorized S-matrices. The associated Casimir energy describes a rich pattern of renormalization group trajectories related to flows in the coset models based on the simply laced Lie Algebras. From a simplest resonance S-matrix, satisfying the “φ3-property”, we predict new flows in non-unitary minimal models. Pacs numbers: ...

Fiber bundles and Lie algebras of top spaces

In this paper, by using of Frobenius theorem a relation between Lie subalgebras of the Lie algebra of a top space T and Lie subgroups of T(as a Lie group) is determined. As a result we can consider these spaces by their Lie algebras. We show that a top space with the finite number of identity elements is a C^{∞} principal fiber bundle, by this method we can characterize top spaces.

Solvable Lie algebras with $N(R_n,m,r)$ nilradical

In this paper, we classify the indecomposable non-nilpotent solvable Lie algebras with $N(R_n,m,r)$ nilradical,by using the derivation algebra and the automorphism group of $N(R_n,m,r)$.We also prove that these solvable Lie algebras are complete and unique, up to isomorphism.

Some properties of nilpotent Lie algebras

In this article, using the definitions of central series and nilpotency in the Lie algebras, we give some results similar to the works of Hulse and Lennox in 1976 and Hekster in 1986. Finally we will prove that every non trivial ideal of a nilpotent Lie algebra nontrivially intersects with the centre of Lie algebra, which is similar to Philip Hall's result in the group theory.
